Future-Farm Supporting the Local Arts

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Future-Farm was pleased to help support the ArtWorks Festival at Longfellow School. Future-Farm created a website and blog where the Longfellow Parent Association can share upcoming events, news with the community, and information on how to get involved with the LPA.

To view the LPA web page  that Future-Farm created, visit  http://lpabozeman.org/

The highlights of the ArtWorks Festival evening of May 14th were silent and live auctions, featuring art created by Longfellow students. Money raised from these auctions helps support learning through the arts by funding artists-in-residence and other programs, as well as purchasing art supplies throughout the school year.  This year’s Festival was a resounding success! The Longfellow school community raised at least $28,000.00 on Friday night all of which goes to benefit the children of Longfellow and support learning through the arts.  This brings the total of money raised to $34,000 for the year.

ArtWorks is a year round, parent-funded arts program culminating in the Artworks Festival each May. The festival celebrates the arts, showcases student talents, and is the primary fundraising event to support the art program at Longfellow Elementary. Students collaborate with teachers, artists-in-residents, parents, and each others to create both individual and group works to present for sale to the Longfellow community. Items range from canvas bags to mirrors, chairs, and dressers.

The panel covered RDFa, Microformats and Semantic web.  Representatives from Yahoo, Google, and Best Buy were present on the panel, helping make it a success.  Andy Atkins-Krüger wrote, “Congratulations to Sean Golliher, Jamie Taylor, Martin Hepp, Jay Myers and Nick Cox for putting together one of the most illuminating panels I’ve seen at SES or any conference for some considerable time. Well planned, well prepared, gripping to the end despite the relatively dry and potentially dull subject.  The panel was anything but dull.”
